Free Winter Games to Play Online (2026): Snowballs, Icebergs and New Year Fireworks
When it’s cold and dark outside, there’s nothing better than a cozy game inside. This list is all about winter: snowballs, frozen lakes, icebergs, northern lights and fireworks for New Year’s Eve.
Every game here is free, runs right in your browser with no download and no sign-up, and works on phones and tablets too. They’re all made by our studio, Glowbit. Most load in about 1 MB, so they’re perfect for a snow day at home, a long winter break or a quick round on a school Chromebook.
1. Waddle Roll!: the snowball game
Genre: snowy defense · Download: ~1 MB · Mobile: yes · Ages: 3+
This is our most wintery game. You play Pom, a little penguin who protects an igloo full of eggs from fire embers. Your only tool is snow. Walk over it and Pom starts pushing a snowball that grows as it rolls, leaving a trail of bare ground behind it. Deep drifts grow a ball fast, and on ice it glides but doesn’t grow.
Kick big balls into the embers like a bowling ball. Leave a ball behind and it becomes a wall. Stack a smaller ball on a bigger one and you’ve built a snowman that throws snowballs for you, and add a third ball for a Super Snowman with a top hat. There are four realms: Frosty Meadow, Crystal Lake (thin ice with holes in it), Pine Peaks under the northern lights and a fiery volcano. After four stages, the endless Blizzard Night mode opens.
Best for: everyone. It’s simple to start, and building the perfect snowman army is really satisfying.

2. Knit Knight!: a cozy kitten in the snowy peaks
Genre: cozy action · Download: ~1 MB · Mobile: yes · Ages: 3+
What’s cozier in winter than a ball of yarn? You play a tiny kitten knight whose yarn trails behind as you run. Close a loop around the critters and they’re all tied up in a knot. Herd them together to catch a whole group in one big loop.
The snowy world is Frosty Peaks, and its boss is the Abominable Snowbun. It throws snowballs at blue rings, then hops to a new spot. Wait for it at the landing ring and loop it while it’s dizzy.
Best for: players who like cute games that still need a bit of skill.

3. Shine Ahoy!: a lighthouse on a frozen fjord
Genre: cozy puzzle · Download: ~1 MB · Mobile: yes · Ages: 3+
On a long winter night, you keep the lighthouse. Boats lost in the dark follow your beam, so sweep the light to gather them up and lead them past the rocks into the harbour before dawn.
In the Frosty Fjord, fog banks hide your light completely and icebergs drift and bounce around the bay. Watch where they’re going and lead your little fleet around them. The fleet includes rowboats, a ferry, grandpa asleep in his bathtub and a giant rubber duck.
Best for: a calm, cozy evening game with a cup of hot chocolate.

4. Boom Bloom!: fireworks for New Year’s Eve
Genre: puzzle · Download: ~1 MB · Mobile: yes · Ages: 3+
Counting down to midnight? Tap the night sky to launch a rocket. Every paper lantern its sparks touch bursts into its own firework and lights its neighbours, so one perfect tap can set off the whole sky. There are 10 kinds of shells, from golden willows to hearts and cat faces.
One of the four venues is Aurora Bay, with snowy peaks, pine trees, cabins and ice floes under the northern lights. The endless Festival mode keeps the fireworks going as long as you like.
Best for: New Year’s Eve, especially for kids who can’t stay up until midnight.

5. Steel Legends: a tank battle on the Frozen Front
Genre: tank shooter · Download: ~12 MB · Mobile: yes · Ages: 12+
For older players who want action. Steel Legends is a 3D tank shooter with six theaters of war, and one of them is the snowy Frozen Front. You unlock it with 22 stars, and from there helicopters join the later missions.
Best for: teens and adults on a newer computer. This is our biggest game, so give it a moment to load.
