Knit Knight Guide – Loops, Knots, Combos, Every Critter and Boss, and How to Get 3 Stars

Glowbit Games · Updated

Knit Knight! is a free browser game where you play a tiny kitten knight with a ball of yarn. Your yarn trails behind you as you run, and closing a loop ties up every critter inside it. This guide explains how loops and knots work, how to herd critters into big combos, how to beat every critter and boss, and how to earn all three stars on each stage.

Controls

  • Run: WASD or the arrow keys, or hold the mouse button where you want to go. On phones and tablets, drag anywhere on the screen to use the floating joystick (Settings can switch it to “run toward your finger”).
  • Pounce: Space, Shift or J, or right-click. On touch screens, use the POUNCE button or put down a second finger. A pounce is a short, fast dash that dodges every attack. It recharges in about 1.4 seconds.
  • Pause: Esc or P. Restart: R.

How loops work

Your yarn ball holds 24 metres of yarn, shown by the yarn meter under your hearts. When you run further, the oldest yarn reels back in, so very big loops are impossible.

A loop closes when you cross your own yarn, or when you come back close to it. Every critter inside gets a knot. A loop with nothing inside doesn’t count, and your yarn keeps going, so crossing an old trail by accident is never a waste.

Treats on the ground (fish, hearts and power-ups) are also collected when they end up inside a loop.

Knots

Small critters need one knot. Boars and hedgehogs need two, and bosses need six or seven. Each knot shows as a ring of yarn around the critter. Knots come loose if you wait too long: about 7 seconds for normal critters and 12 for bosses. While a critter is dizzy, tired or resting, its knots never slip.

Combos and herding

Tie several critters in one loop for a combo: DOUBLE KNOT (x2 points), TRIPLE KNOT (x3), PURR-FECT! (x4), YARN-TASTIC! (x5) and YARNADO! (6 or more). Catching again within 3 seconds builds a streak for up to 50% extra.

Mice and foxes run away from you, so circling a group pushes them together into the middle of your loop. Slow critters such as slimes chase you, so you can drag them into a bunch before you loop. Many stages have a combo star challenge, and herding is how you earn it.

Critters

Critter What it does How to tie it up
🐭 Nibbler Mouse Panics in short bursts, then freezes and trembles Close the loop while it freezes
🪲 Snipper Beetle Crawls to your yarn and snips it Catch it before it reaches the yarn, or wear Steel Yarn
🐗 Grumble Boar Snorts, then charges along a red lane. Hurts if it hits you Stand in front of a tree, step aside, and loop it twice while it is dizzy
🟢 Gloop Slime Slowly chases you. Touching it hurts One knot, then it splits into two Mini Gloops. Loop them together
🦇 Flutter Bat Flies too high to catch, then swoops at a red ring Step out of the ring, then loop it while it sits dizzy on the ground
🦊 Swish Fox Faster than you Chase it until it pants, then loop it while it rests
🦔 Prickle Hog Its spikes snip yarn and poke kittens Loop wide around it, twice
👻 Boo Mouse Fades in and out. Loops pass through it when faded Close the loop when it glows solid

Bosses

Every realm ends with a boss. At half its knots a boss becomes FURIOUS and attacks faster, and the boss bar at the top shows its knots.

  • Sir Snortington (Clover Meadow, 6 knots): a giant charging boar, with mice running around. Make him crash into trees and loop him while he is dizzy.
  • Queen Gloopra (Mushroom Wood, 6 knots): she wobbles, then belly-flops onto a pink ring, so step out of it. Every knot squeezes two Mini Gloops out of her. Loop them all together for a big combo.
  • The Abominable Snowbun (Frosty Peaks, 6 knots): throws snowballs at blue rings, then hops to a new spot (a blue ring shows where it lands). It is dizzy right after landing, so wait at the ring and loop it.
  • The Rat King (Moonlit Castle, 7 knots): summons Boo Mice. When he glows and a purple ring appears around him, he is about to spin and snip every yarn inside it. Run out of the ring, then come back.

Treats and charms

Treats appear during a stage: Catnip (much faster for 8 s), Rainbow Yarn (double yarn and double fish for 10 s) and the Jingle Bell (every critter freezes for 3.5 s).

Fish from every catch buy charms. You can wear 1 charm at first, 2 from 10 stars and 3 from 28 stars.

Charm Effect Cost
🧶 Long Yarn 40% more yarn 60 fish
🧲 Fish Magnet Fish fly to you 90
🐾 Swift Paws Run 12% faster 110
🔔 Lucky Bell 50% more fish 130
💨 Zoomies Pounce recharges 40% faster 150
⛓️ Steel Yarn Nothing can snip your yarn 190
💖 Nine Lives One extra heart 230
🎀 Double Knot Every loop ties two knots 320

Long Yarn is the best first buy. Steel Yarn makes the beetle and hedgehog stages much easier, and Double Knot halves the work against bosses.

Stars

Each stage has three star goals, and each one is kept once you earn it: tie them all up, finish under the par time, and the stage challenge.

Stage Par Challenge

Stars unlock 8 kitten coats, from Sir Whiskers (ginger tabby) to Cosmic Kitty at 42 stars.

Yarnado Rush (endless)

Yarnado Rush opens after you clear four stages. Waves keep coming, each bigger and with new kinds of critters, and the run ends if more than 20 critters run around at once. Combos are the way to keep up: herd the mice into a bunch, wait for the bats to land, and keep a Jingle Bell for when the field gets crowded.
