Lights Out, Teddy! Guide – Flashlight Tricks, Every Monster, Toys, Bosses and 3 Stars

Lights Out, Teddy! is a free browser game where you play Teddy, a teddy bear who stays awake to guard a sleeping girl called Mia. Shadow monsters crawl out of the closet, the toy chest, the window and the hallway and head for her bed. Every one that gets there scares her, and at 100% fear she wakes up. Survive until 6 AM and the sunrise burns every shadow away. This guide covers the flashlight, the toys, every monster and boss, and how to earn all three stars.

Controls

  • Move: WASD or the arrow keys. On phones and tablets, drag with your left thumb for a floating joystick.
  • Aim: the flashlight points at the mouse cursor. On touch screens it aims at the nearest monster by itself, or you can drag a second finger on the right side of the screen to aim.
  • FOCUS: hold the left mouse button or Space (the FOCUS button on touch screens).
  • FLASH: right click or Q (the FLASH button on touch screens).
  • Build: stand on a glowing toy spot and press 1-4 (or tap a toy in the bar). U upgrades, X sells.
  • Pause: Esc or P. Restart: R.

The flashlight

  • The wide beam is free. It slows most monsters to about half speed and burns them slowly. Keep it on whatever is closest to the bed.
  • FOCUS narrows the beam into a ray that burns about four times faster and nearly freezes monsters in place. It drains the battery (the yellow bar). If the battery runs flat you can’t focus until it recharges a bit, so let go between monsters.
  • FLASH hurts and stuns everything around Teddy, then takes about 14 seconds to recharge. Save it for crowds of sock spiders, moths and the bosses’ tricks.
  • Tall furniture (wardrobes, shelves, dressers) blocks the light. Beds, chests and desks don’t.

Dream sparkles and toys

Banished monsters drop dream sparkles ✨ that fly to Teddy when he is close. Spend them on toys built on the glowing spots, ideally the spots nearest the bed.

  • Nightlight (✨20): a glowing mushroom that burns shadows nearby and slows them. Gloom Moths can’t resist it.
  • Tin Soldier (✨30, from night 2): pops corks at the nearest monster. It is the only toy that hits moths in the air.
  • Music Box (✨35, from night 3): monsters near it slow to a crawl, and it slowly calms Mia’s fear.
  • Lava Lamp (✨45, from night 6): every few seconds it pulses and blasts everything around it.

Every toy can be upgraded once for more range and power. Selling gives back 60% of what you spent.

The monsters

  • Creeper: a blob of shadow. Any light hurts it; FOCUS banishes it fast.
  • Skitter: sock spiders that come in bunches. Fragile but fast. A FLASH or a soldier clears them.
  • Under-Bed Hand: reaches up beside the bed. Shine any light on it and it shrinks back; leave it alone and it grabs a toe.
  • Gloom Moth: your beam doesn’t burn it, it attracts it. A lit moth flutters around Teddy and nibbles the battery. Lead it to a Nightlight or Tin Soldier, or FLASH it.
  • Lurker: the tall thing in the top hat. It ignores the wide beam and swats Teddy away if he gets close. FOCUS on it from a distance.

The bosses

  • The Closet King (night 4): his coat blocks light and toys. Every few seconds he throws it open and lets out sock spiders: that’s when you FOCUS on the glowing eyes inside.
  • Mama Moth (night 8): she circles the room and can’t be hurt in flight. When she lands on a Nightlight (or the furniture), FOCUS. When she dives at the bed, FLASH her out of the air. Build Nightlights so she lands where you want her.
  • The Boogeyman (night 12): he hides in dark corners. FLASH drags him into the open for a few seconds of free damage; FOCUS pins him while he stalks. Every so often he turns the lights out, so keep your FLASH ready.

On boss nights the clock stops at 5:59 until the boss is banished.

Three stars

  1. Make it to 6 AM (or banish the boss).
  2. Keep Mia’s fear under 50%. Build toys early, and remember fear calms down on its own when nothing is near the bed.
  3. Find the Lucky Star. Each night hides one in a dark corner. It only shows up when your beam passes over it, so sweep the corners when the room is quiet.

Stars unlock new looks for Teddy, and cookies 🍪 from each night buy permanent upgrades in the Toy Box: a brighter bulb, a bigger battery, a comfy blanket, a bedtime story (more starting sparkles) and a faster flash. Clear four nights to open the Longest Night, an endless run of ever darker rooms.

Too spooky? Turn on Gentle mode in Settings to remove the jump-scare stingers and red flashes.
