Jelly Gulp Guide – How to Gulp, Spit, Use Power-Ups and Win Every Stage
Jelly Gulp is a free 3D jelly sumo party game for your browser and phone. You and up to seven other wobbly jellies fight on top of a giant dessert, and the dessert falls apart under you. Bonk the others into the sea, gulp the small ones and spit them at the big ones. The last jelly on the cake wins. This guide explains how gulping works, what every power-up does and how to place in the top three on all 15 stages.
The basics
- Move with WASD, the arrow keys or the mouse (your jelly rolls toward the cursor). On a phone, drag on the left side of the screen.
- Dash with Space or a click (J, K, Enter and Shift work too). On a phone, tap the right side of the screen or the DASH button. A dash has a 1-second cooldown, shown as a ring around the button.
- Gulp by dashing into a jelly that is clearly smaller than you.
- Spit by pressing the dash button again while someone is inside you.
- Press P to pause.
You win a round by being the last jelly standing. Your place gives you stars: 1st place is 3 stars, 2nd is 2 stars and 3rd is 1 star. You need at least 1 star (top three) to unlock the next stage.
How gulping works
Every jelly starts small. Candy rains onto the cake all the time, and every piece you roll over makes you a little bigger. You can gulp another jelly when its radius is 84% of yours or less, so you need a real size lead, not just one extra candy. Gulping only happens on a dash: rolling into a small jelly just pushes it.
- Nobody can be gulped in the first 6 seconds of a round, so use that time to collect candy.
- A gulped jelly stays stuck in your see-through belly for about 3 seconds before it wiggles out. While you carry it you are slower, so spit it soon.
- Spitting fires the jelly out like a cannonball in the direction you are moving. A spat jelly bonks hard: aim it at a rival near the edge and you can knock two jellies out at once.
- Big hits knock a candy loose from the jelly you hit, so bonking also steals size.
Got gulped? Mash the dash button (or tap fast). Every press cuts time off your stay inside. When you pop out you are briefly protected, so roll away from the jelly that ate you.
Power-ups
Power-ups appear on the cake every few seconds. Roll over one to take it. You can hold only one at a time.
| Power-up | What it does | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| 🌶️ Hot Chili | Fire dashes for 6 s: your dash cooldown drops from 1 s to 0.35 s and every bonk hits much harder | Chase people to the edge and dash again and again |
| 🫧 Bubble Gum | You float over holes for 6 s, nobody can gulp you and knockback is halved | Cross the gaps when the cake is crumbling, or wait it out in a hole |
| 🍰 Mega Jelly | You become much bigger and heavier for 7 s and nobody can gulp you, but you move a bit slower | Gulp the jellies that were your size a moment ago |
| 💥 Belly Slam | Your next dash becomes a big jump that lands with a shockwave | Jump into the middle of a crowd; everyone around you flies outward |
Hazards
- Crumbling cake: after about 12 to 18 seconds the cake starts to fall apart from the outside in. Tiles turn red before they drop. A few tiles in the middle never fall, so stay near the middle and do not stand on red tiles.
- Giant spoons slam down onto the cake from the side. A dark purple circle shows where they will hit: roll out of it.
- Cherry bombs drop from the sky. A red circle shows where they land, and the blast throws everyone inside it.
- Bumpers bounce you back hard. Use them to throw a rival off the cake.
- Sudden Jelly: if a round lasts more than 95 seconds, the cake crumbles much faster and spoons and bombs come more often.
The five worlds
Each world has 3 stages. The third stage of every world starts with one big bully jelly.
- Birthday Cake: a round cake over a sea of strawberry milk. The first stage is a gentle tutorial: the other jellies leave you alone for the first 16 seconds.
- Pancake Peaks: a flower-shaped stack of pancakes over a syrup lake. Spoons and cherry bombs come more often from here on.
- Donut Dunes: a ring-shaped donut with a hole in the middle, over hot cocoa. There is no safe centre, so keep moving around the ring.
- Mochi Spin: a star-shaped plate that keeps turning. The spin slowly drags you, so steer against it.
- Brain Freeze: slippery ice cream islands over blue soda. On ice you speed up and slow down very slowly, so start your turns early and do not dash toward the edge.
Tips to win
- Eat first, fight later. Spend the first seconds of a round collecting candy. The bigger jelly decides who gulps whom.
- Dash from the inside out. Stay between your target and the centre, then dash toward the edge. A jelly pushed toward the centre just comes back.
- Let them fight. You do not have to knock everyone out yourself. Collect candy and power-ups while the others bonk each other.
- Spit at the edge. Do not spit a gulped jelly toward the middle of the cake. Aim it at someone near the edge.
- Watch the big jelly. Keep away from anyone clearly bigger than you unless you have Bubble Gum or Mega Jelly.
- Mind the cooldown. After you dash you cannot dash again for 1 second, and that is when others hit you. Do not dash next to the edge unless the hit is sure.
