Echo Army Guide – How Echoes Work, Best Upgrades and Beating All 5 Bosses

Glowbit Games · Updated

Echo Army is a free boss-rush shooter for your browser, built around one idea: every 10 seconds, time rewinds, and your last run becomes an Echo that fights next to you. Win and your echoes do most of the work. This guide explains how to plan a loop, which upgrades are worth picking and how each boss works.

How the loop works

  • A loop lasts 10 seconds. You have up to 10 loops to defeat the boss.
  • Everything you did becomes an Echo: a ghost that repeats your exact path and shots in every following loop.
  • The boss starts every loop at full health. To win, you and all your echoes together must deal its full health within a single loop. After each loop the game shows how much of the boss your army managed.
  • An echo that gets hit shatters and stops shooting for the rest of that loop. On the next loop it replays from the start again.

So loop 1 is not about winning. Every loop is a recording of a soldier who will fight next to you from then on. A good recording keeps shooting the boss for the whole loop, from a spot where the boss’s attacks rarely reach.

Plan your loops

  1. Spread out. If every echo stands in the same spot, one attack can shatter them all. Record each loop from a different part of the arena.
  2. Dodge, don’t just shoot. An echo is only useful while it is alive. A loop where you dodge everything and shoot 70% of the time beats one where you shoot 100% and get hit at second 6.
  3. Guard your past selves. You can stand in front of your echoes. Shoot down the boss’s projectiles (eggs, toasts, chicks…) before they reach your army.
  4. Dash through danger. Space, Shift or right click gives a short dash with brief invulnerability. It recharges in under a second, so use it often.

You have 3 hearts to start with. Your hitbox is smaller than your body, as in classic bullet-hell games, so you can squeeze through tighter gaps than it looks.

Upgrade cards

After each loop you pick one of three cards. Every upgrade powers you and every echo, past and future. Commons appear most often, then Rares, then Epics.

Card Rarity Effect Max
Rapid Fire Common +22% fire rate 5
Heavy Rounds Common +22% damage 5
Swift Boots Common +12% move speed, −20% dash cooldown 3
Big Bullets Common +35% bullet size, +10% damage 3
Extra Heart Common +1 max heart 3
Twin Shot Rare +1 bullet per shot 3
Ricochet Rare Bullets bounce off walls 2
Lucky Strike Rare +15% crit chance, crits deal ×2.5 3
Homing Rounds Rare Bullets curve towards the boss 2
Overclock Rare +2 seconds per loop 3
Paradox Shield Epic Each echo survives one hit per loop 1
Echo Fury Epic Echoes deal +50% damage 2
Time Warp Epic Boss bullets 15% slower 2
Last Stand Epic Shattered echoes explode into 16 bullets 1

Best picks:

  • Paradox Shield is the best card in the game: every echo can take one hit per loop without shattering. Always take it.
  • Echo Fury turns a big army into a boss shredder. It is strongest in the later loops.
  • Twin Shot and Heavy Rounds are reliable damage that works on every weapon.
  • Overclock (+2 s per loop, up to 16 s) gives every echo more time to shoot. Take it early.
  • Homing Rounds fixes missed shots while you dodge. Very good with the Scatter and the Boomerang.

Weapons

Weapon Price Style
Blaster free Fast, reliable stream of shots
Scatter 350 coins 5-pellet burst, huge damage up close
Rail 700 coins Slow, piercing shots with very high damage
Boomerang 1,000 coins Big shots that fly back and hit twice

The Rail is the best weapon for echoes. It hits about four times harder than the Blaster and pierces, and an echo that fires slow, strong shots from a safe distance stays alive. The Scatter is strong but forces you to get close, which is risky for your recordings.

The five bosses

# Boss Health 3 stars if you win within
1 Cluckzilla, the giant chicken 1,000 5 loops
2 Toastinator 3000, the killer toaster 1,350 6 loops
3 DJ Meowtron, the DJ cat 1,700 6 loops
4 Gloop King, the slime king 2,200 7 loops
5 Chrono Overlord, the furious alarm clock 2,900 7 loops
  • Cluckzilla throws eggs and sends chicks after you. Shoot the chicks before they reach your echoes.
  • Toastinator 3000 fires toasts and rains them from above. Its cross-shaped grill attack locks onto where you’re standing, so keep moving.
  • DJ Meowtron attacks on the beat of the 144 BPM track. Listen to the music and dodge on the beat.
  • Gloop King splashes droplets around the arena. Leave yourself room to retreat.
  • Chrono Overlord, the final boss, throws boomerang hands that come back and traps you in freeze cages. Don’t stand still.

Standing still never wins: the game is tuned so that one hero who just stands and shoots deals only about 10% of a boss’s health in a loop. Moving to good angles, landing upgrades and keeping echoes alive is what pushes your army past 100%.

Daily challenge

The daily challenge picks one boss and two modifiers, the same for everyone on that day:

  • Glass Cannon: 1 heart, ×1.7 damage.
  • Bullet Storm: boss bullets 25% faster.
  • Loyal Echoes: echoes deal +40% damage.
  • Chonky Boss: boss +25% health, coins ×1.5.
  • Short Fuse: loops last 8 seconds.
  • Pinball: start with 2 Ricochet.
  • Double Trouble: start with Twin Shot.

It pays double coins, so it is the fastest way to buy the Rail and the Boomerang.

Coins

You earn 60 coins per win, 15 for every loop you didn’t need, and more for later bosses. Winning fast pays twice: more coins and 3 stars. Spend coins on weapons first, then on skins: Sprout, Bubblegum, Sunset, Phantom and Royal.
